The High King of Erin sits his throne in Blackpool, but has no power over any beyond the immediate reach of his army. Here in the Barony of Mallow he has none. Mallow is small territory situated in the southwestern part of the island between the Duchy of Cork to the south, the County of Limerick to the north, and largely wild lands to the west and east. The Barony is ruled by old Angus O’Giollain through the seven Lords and Ladies who owe the Baron fealty.
Play began with the characters being in the Barony of Mallow, in a thorp a few miles west of the baronial seat.
Characters are created in session and it’s assumed that the characters already know one another.
- Roll 4d6 and sum the highest 3 dice six times for the six character ability scores of strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution, and charisma. If at least 2 rolls do not meet or exceed 15 or more than one roll is 6 or less, it is recommended to re-roll for a new set of scores. It is also recommended that players accept the first set of scores which are not recommended for re-roll. The 6 ability score rolls may be arranged as desired among the 6 abilities. Understanding that you may be seeking qualification for a particular character class, a re-roll of acceptable scores is fine, but if the dice are not siding with you, please accept the whim of the dice after a second of denial.
- Characters roll 2d6 and sum for social class (SC) background, roll as indicated for the character’s progenitor’s profession, select the character’s background skill, and note these results. This skill choice replaces the “Player Character Non-Professional Skill” rule as described on DMG p.12. (See Character family background rules.)
- Proceed with standard character creation steps according to Players Handbook except as noted earlier.
